Planning for the Future!

Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) is developing a Comprehensive District Master Plan to help guide the future of parks, recreation programs and facilities, and services in our community for the next 10-20 years.

In August 2026, the board of directors approved the district’s engagement with Cameron McCarthy, a landscape and planning firm, as the primary consultant to develop the Comprehensive District Master Plan. Working in partnership with Cameron McCarthy, the district will undergo an analysis of its existing facilities, programs, services, and funding to evaluate current needs, identify future opportunities, and establish a long-term vision for parks and recreation in the Sisters community.

The plan will serve as a short- and long-range planning tool for future decision-making, helping the district prioritize projects, plan for growth, and make thoughtful investments in opportunities that matter most to our community. The planning process will also examine the district’s current funding structure and mechanisms and long-term financial sustainability to help ensure the resources needed to support identified community priorities and future service levels are considered alongside the needs and outcomes established through community engagement.

Why Develop a Plan?

As our community continues to evolve, so do the needs and interests of district residents. A comprehensive district master plan provides an opportunity to evaluate existing parks, facilities, programs, and services while identifying opportunities to better serve the community now and in the future.

The plan will help the District:

    • Assess existing parks, recreation facilities, programs, and services.
    • Identify community needs, interested, and opportunities for improvement.
    • Evaluate future recreation and facility needs as the community grows and changes.
    • Establish priorities for future projects, improvements, and investments.
    • Evaluate existing funding mechanisms and explore opportunities to support the district’s long-term financial sustainability.
    • Align future funding strategies and resource allocation with community identified needs, priorities, and desired outcomes.
    • Develop a long-term framework to guide planning, budgeting, and investment decisions.

Community Engagement

Community input will be an important part of the planning process. District residents, families, users, and other community stakeholders will have opportunities to share their experiences, priorities, and ideas for the future of parks and recreation in Sisters. Your feedback will help the district better understand what is working well, where improvements may be needed, which services and facilities are most important, and what opportunities should be considered as we plan for the future. The needs and outcomes identified through this process will also help inform recommendations for funding and long-term financial sustainability.

Your voice matters! Your participation will help shape a plan that reflects our community’s priorities and supports responsible, sustainable planning for the future. Stay tuned for more information and check back often throughout the planning process to stay engaged and provide valuable feedback!
