Creating A Greenprint for Deschutes County Trust for Public Lands
Deschutes County is a place of unforgettable character where a
great quality of life is rooted in the beauty of the landscape.
We believe that maintaining and promoting that quality of life
is of paramount importance to our future.
In the past ten years, Deschutes County has experienced the
most rapid growth of any county in Oregon, and residents are
increasingly concerned about how best to maintain the character
of the community.
Now, a broadly-based coalition, of State, County, City, Park
and Recreation Districts and non-profit land conservation
groups has come together to help create a "Greenprint" that
will identify and prioritize the values that shape our
community.
The result will be a non-regulatory road map for conservation
that helps our community make informed decisions about land
conservation, recreation priorities, and balanced growth. It
will include detailed maps that show our critical natural
resources, wildlife habitat, and trail connections, highlighted
with ecological and recreational priorities identified by the
people who use them most.
Because the Greenprint will be created in collaboration not
only with civic leaders and professional organizations, but
with extensive input from people from all walks of life in
Deschutes County, we believe it will ensure the community is
involved in, and supportive of the plan.
